🕳️ hello from the bottom of an automation hole

A snippet

This Week:

  • I automated the drafting process. Previously I had gotten it down to 1 hour to draft a drawer from a 2D paper design. Now it takes 1 second.

  • Then I started thinking… why do a paper design at all? So I wrote a script that would let me design the dividers on top of a photo, and then spit out all the coordinates to feed the drafting script (above).

  • Then I started thinking… why do my own design at all? And so now I’m working on a machine learning model that will predict slat placement based on my early designs as training data.

  • I’m still working through the machine learning training data, which is causing me to rethink the design script as well (Ideally the early design work can also be used as training data, without re-doing).

  • Once I climb out of my automation hole, which is what I lovingly refer to this week as, I will be ready to spin up an Alpha customer program. More on that later <3

  • Oh! I also visited and joined the local makerspace. Woohooo!

Last Week:

  • I finally finished watching the Shapeoko CNC videos provided by the CNC experts at the local makerspace.

  • I then created my own “recipe”, where I walked through everything I would need to machine my own prototype. It basically turned into a big To Do list, which still isn’t completely done.

  • I’m still studying the makerspace startup procedure, which will probably inform the recipe further.

  • Video pictured is a visualization of how the CNC will cut through my material.
