First Prototype Unboxing

  • Edited the unboxing video (see above). Enjoy!

  • Re-developed the CAD file using “parametric CAD”, which sounds fancy, but is really just using parameters instead of hard coding numbers. Everything is a parameter. Length, width, slot size, tab size, slot and tab location. I’m starting to envision how one could automate the design portion.

  • Sent off another round of prototyping pieces using different material (thicker MDF), fixing mistakes from last round, and testing out different length of tabs.

  • Found a maker space within 30 min of my house and joined their Discord. They have a Shapeoko CNC! It seems like an active community. They sent me a ton of resources to get started.

  • Enter the “learning curve” portion of CNC. I really want to study the Shapeoko and Carbide learning material so I can feel confident using a communal machine. I also want to do as much pre-work as possible so I can maximize my time in the space. So that’s next. Don’t worry, there will be no time-lapse videos of me watching YouTube videos.
