I finished the CAD model in its entirety, including re-measuring everything, so that means I can send this off to SendCutSend for cutting. I'm using Chipboard for this initial version, cut with a laser! It'll take almost a week to get the prototype back.
I'm fairly aware of how this could all go wrong, even if I didn't make any mistakes (and I can't imagine that's the case). The biggest issue is the tolerances. If the material is thicker than expected, the tabs won't fit in the slots. Plus the cutting precision could be as much as 30% off, and that will throw off joinery as well.
These are things you could calibrate in your own shop. So I'm feeling a bit removed from this initial prototype. All the more reason to get my own CNC!
